Shake Hands with History

Shake Hands with History - Meet the Characters

Sunday 5th August 2018

12 to 4 pm

Living history -  The Earl of Mar, the Black Colonel, Princess Dolgorouki, Robert Louis Stevenson, Queen Victoria, Piccadilly Jim, Colonel Anne, all ready and waiting to show you round the Castle

Where can you bow before Queen Victoria, discuss Long John Silver with the author of Treasure Island, rub shoulders with a redcoat?   As the community of Braemar celebrate 10 years of operating the Castle as a Visitor Attraction and you are invited to meet the people who have created its story.   Come and “Shake Hands with the History” and meet the characters associated with the Castle’s long and colourful history.

It’s where Queen Victoria came to watch the Highland Games and take tea in the Drawing Room, redcoats used it as a barracks, the Jacobite Black Colonel set it on fire, Princess Alexis Dolgorouki brought Russian fashions and tastes to Deeside and Mrs Frances Farquharson, former editor of Harpers Bazaar, painted the loos Schiaparelli pink!  Costume volunteers, who also represent the Castle’s new story of community operation, will be here to greet you with a story in each room.

Usual admission prices apply.
