Raising The Standard Appeal
Braemar Castle has been successfully managed and maintained by the local community under Braemar Community Ltd since 2007 and has become a thriving visitor attraction. However, the building now needs urgent work to restore, conserve and protect for future generations to enjoy.
Raising the Standard is a 3-year project of improvements and repairs that will preserve Braemar Castle and its collection. The project goes beyond restoring the building as we will create inspiring and engaging experiences for visitors, volunteers and Clan Farquharson members.
The project, so far, has been supported by National Lottery Heritage Fund and Historic Environment Scotland who have pledged match funding.
We have been affected by the outbreak of covid-19 and have had to rethink our fundraising strategy and plans. Our target funding is now £1.4m of which we still need to raise £330,000.
We have fundraising sponsorship initiatives which are accessible for everyone to support, but first an explanation…
The harling (which is the exterior render covering the stone of the castle and skirt wall) needs to be replaced to allow the castle to breathe by stopping moisture permeating into the stonework of the building and being trapped causing damp to form in the interior.
We have approximately 2,500m² of harling to replace and we are encouraging donors to support us in multiples of £20 per m², eg: 2 m² = £40; 5 m² = £100; 10 m² = £200, etc.
Any donations towards this important sponsorship initiative would be gratefully received. Donations over £400 will be publicly acknowledged for posterity.
