Raising The Standard Appeal

Braemar Castle has been successfully managed and maintained by the local community since 2007 and has become a thriving visitor attraction. However, the building now needs urgent work to protect its structure.

Raising the Standard is a 3-year project of improvements and repairs that will preserve Braemar Castle and its collection and create inspiring and engaging experiences for visitors and volunteers.

The community needs to raise £500,000 to contribute to this £1.5m project that will:

  • reharl the external walls with a traditional lime wash.
  • enhance the visitor facilities.
  • create exciting new events, training and volunteer opportunities.

For more information on the project, download our information brochure here.

We have developed a scheme around the 2500m² of harling required for the Castle and Curtain Wall. At a donation level of £20 per m² we would plan to raise approximately £50,000 including gift aid.
All contributions towards this scheme will be very welcome and for donations of, or above, 20m² (£400) public and permanent acknowledgement of such support will be publicly and permanently acknowledged at the castle (unless donor wishes anonymity). All donations will be recorded in a donor roll.
Sponsorship levels have been set as follows:
 1-49 m² £20 per m²
 50-99m² £17.50 per m²
 100 +m² £15 per m²

In the event of National Lottery Heritage Fund or Historic Environment Scotland support not being forthcoming for this project then funds received for this scheme will be allocated for use on other Castle property related projects.

All donations will be gift aided where eligible. Giving via Gift Aid increases the contribution the Castle receives by 25%. The donors eligibility for gift aid needs to be confirmed.
